What is a blog?
The Definition of a blog:
What is a Blog
So you're interested in a blog? The American Heritage Dictionary (via Google) states:
web·log (wblôg, -lg) noun: A website that displays in chronological order the postings by one or more individuals and usually has links to comments on specific postings.
and Wikipedia says:
A blog is a website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting), and are part of a wider network of social media.
The truth is, it doesn't matter what you want to say... all you need is a purpose. Have one? We'll give you a soap box to stand on - even if it's to enlighten the world of the wonders of chiropractics or to publish the untold stories of a cabby driver.

Everyone deserves a voice; so what will you blog today?

How long will it take to complete my project? I want to get going!
Our turn around time averages two months. Please specify any deadlines you may have to meet for a product's release or anything of this sort.

Please remember this as well: creating a brand new website not only requires time from the designer and developer, but from the client as well. We will be working with you every step of the way, and we need you fill your end of the bargain to fill page content, etc... So, depending on this factor (you) the project can run very quickly, or at a more relaxed pace.

How does the design process work and what can I expect?
This process is "technically" described in our terms of service. Here, we've attempted to present the process to you plain english.
  • Fill out the project order form, and be sure to include ALL details. Remember, we're not mind readers!
  • After we receive your order, we'll send you over an official quote (including an anticipated time line) for your project along with our terms and conditions here. You can expect this back within 5 business days.
  • After these two steps, the terms and conditions are in effect. A 50% deposit for your project must be made within 30 days via Paypal or check. No work will begin until we receive your deposit.
  • After payment is received, it's time to get down to the fun stuff! First, a brainstorm will begin - it's a process that allows us to make sure we know exactly what you're looking for. Different kinds of images and styles are sent back and forth until the designer is sure that they understand what you'd like.
  • Once you've decided on the images you like, the draft process will begin. Once you receive the first draft of your design PLEASE list the exact changes you would like made.
  • After the final graphical draft is approval by the client, coding will begin. Your design will be tested on Blog What Design test servers. A total of 10 textual/coded changes may be made after the coded draft is created. Any draft work past this will incurr our $75/hour fee. After we are finished, we will give you the user and password information to the test site and allow you to 'test drive' your new design.
  • The balance of the payment is due now! You may also opt to send this in advance. We will not upload the website to your servers until we receive the second payment, so feel free to send it in advance!
  • Launch time! The designer will request at this time CMS login information and FTP/control panel login information. Remember: it is the client's responsibilty to make sure that they meet the minimum requirements for the selected CMS and design. Not sure if your host meets the requirements? Ask us!
  • All done! Your new design is yours to keep. Blog What Design will offer basic technical support for your new CMS and error corrections to total no more than 1 hour. Enjoy!

  • Your name is Blog What Design; don't you only specialize in blogs?
Quite the contrary! Although we enjoy creating blogs, we have always produced commercial websites and designs containing no blogs at all. We'd love to take on your project, even if it doesn't include a blog.

I need a website and I am absolutely new to all of this. Where do I begin?
Well you've come to the right place. First, take a look at what category your project falls under here on our services page. Then figure out how large you anticipate the project to be and about how much you would like to spend. After this it's good to find some websites created in the style you like best. You should include these websites on your project or form. After you've found out what kind of web site you would like, and the style, it's time to fill out the project order form and proceed with the rest of the design process!

Can I meet/call you to talk about my new web site?
Although we enjoy free dinners very much, the web presence of Blog What Design calls for a certain amount of caution. Because of this, no phone numbers, adresses etc... are posted on this web site in the best interest of our safety. Please be rest assured that we will handle your project with the utmost attention, and e-mail DOES have it's perks. We keep a constant dialog going with our clients during the entire process to ensure that your questions, comments, and concerns are heard. Once we get the design process going however, we'd love to chat with you on the phone.

Your company launched my website a few weeks/months ago and now it's broken. Can you fix it?
Blog What Design allows for a total of 1 hour of service for the client after their web site has been launched to correct errors, set up categories, and teach the client the workings of their new web site. Any new problems or requests resulting after this will inccur our $65/hour design fee, and will be processed and placed in our queue of work.

How long does it take to make a website?
Every project we take on is unique; some projects may take only a month, while others may take up to a year. A potential timeline (dependent on the timeliness of your payment) will be included with your quote. We prefer not to rush through our work... the websites tend to come out better that way ;)

How come all of your pricing is by quote only?
Every project we complete is extremely unique. Therefore, we can't place a set price for any type of project. We want to ensure that we meet all of your needs and at the price that is best for you. If you'd like "the works" we'll give it to ya'; if you'd like a basic blog at an affordable price, we can provide you that too.

I'm seeing this fancy "CMS" acronym thrown around a lot; what is it?
CMS stands for Content Management System. Content management systems can include some blogging platforms, such as WordPress, and licensed programs including ExpressionEngine.
